Rally Ho!

Hi Everyone!

Just recently, I was lucky enough to attend a rally for motorhomers at Boonah in Qld. I have so many ask me “What is a rally?” and “What do you do there?” that I thought I would take the time to share with you.

The rally starts with the rolling in of all the different motorhomes (in this case over 1000 of them!!), all different sizes, layouts, brands etc most containing two occupants, many containing one, and many of them containing at least one dog! They have travelled from all over Australia to share a week of fun and friendship.

The organisation of such an event is a huge task and it is undertaken by a band of members who are volunteers – a wonderful group without whom these events would never exist! They gather at the rally site in the weeks prior to the rally, to carry out all the preparations – marking out and numbering of parking, water plumbed to all areas, dump sites installed for the ‘black waste’, collection sites for the dumping of ‘grey waste’, setting up of electrics, sound systems etc, erection of the huge marquis, installation of temporary ablution blocks and so on – a huge, huge job!

As you arrive at the gates, you are met by the volunteers and given your identification paper (which must be displayed in your windscreen for the duration of the rally) ribbons (which must be worn for the duration of the rally), your ‘showbag’ of brochures and other info about the local town and area outlining points of interest, special offers etc and a warm “Welcome to Boonah!” You are then directed on to the parking volunteers, who by looking at the paper on your windscreen, know exactly where you are to park and within minutes you are parked on your designated spot.

It is now time to ‘set up’ for the week and the first thing is to level up . We do this by running the vehicle up onto ramps.

You will also notice a bucket – this is to be filled with water and placed at the passenger side wheel in case of fire.

and yes our ID papers are displayed!

Next comes the awning – it winds out – the ‘privacy screen’ is attached and pegged out. There is just enough room for others to ‘walk through’ between the rigs.
You can also see the mat that we put down on the ground – it is a matting that doesn’t kill the grass and just helps ‘define’ the space and keeps you from walking grass, mud etc into the home.

So then it’s unfold the chairs and put the table together

Now Nanny has a place to ~~craft~~ sit and study the program for the week in the shade! I’ll tell you about that later.

Blogtoberfest – Stack it up!

Hi! One thing you have to consider in the Motorhome is SPACE. ( One must have space for the essentials like crafting!!)

I have decided that it’s time to do some ‘sorting’ and rearranging. Take a look at this shelf – large plates, bread and butter plates, cereal bowls and noodle bowls BUT look at all of that wasted space! Yes, that is non-slip stuff you can see – the big difference when you change from a caravan, is that now you can HEAR what all those bumps in the road do to your belongings and believe me, it can get quite distracting! It has been my ‘job’ to quieten things down and I think I have done a fine job! 😉

Anyway, back to the shelf……

I’ve been looking for a plate rack for quite a while now and decided it was time to ‘make one fit’! So off I went to Big W and found myself a plate stacker that of course we couldn’t even get into the cupboard – curved doors and hinges don’t help!

There was nothing else to do but take out the shelf and manouver a bit but it still wouldn’t fit so I employed Poppy to make the necessary adjustments ie cut the legs off the #@%$ thing and taa daa – we now have all of the plates stacked and still have half a shelf left. (I’ll get more craft space yet!!!!)

I can’t wait to get on the road to see how it will travel. Notice I tidied the non slip up as well? Looks much better!

Maybe I can fit the mugs and stuff up there as well – mmmm, I’ll think on that a bit!

I thought it was time that I shared with you my ‘other’ love – Motorhoming!

Let me introduce our ‘home away from home’ – our A’van Ovation or as the grandchildren say, Poppy’s truck!

The sign says it all ‘Proudly Australian’.

Let me take you inside:

This is taken from the front – you can see the bed on the right and the bathroom on the left. You can see right into the shower which is separated from the rest of the bathroom by a retractable screen door. You can also see the aircon and the main hatch over the kitchen area. At the foot of the bed is our fridge/freezer and above that is the microwave and sound system. On the left you can see the top of the oven and above it the sink. In front of the kitchen area is the double seat which also have seat belts. The grey on the bottom right is the entry.

This one is taken from the back towards the front. The blinds are around the windscreen and the seats are rotated to face the table. At the top you will see the skylight windows – the blinds are drawn here as well, but this is one of my favourite features especially on a star filled night!
On the other side of the entry is another double seat, facing the table and both of these seats and the table convert to another double bed. The grandchildren haven’t worked this out yet!

We both love our home on wheels – it’s like having a cubbyhouse!
We have had a history of camping – first the tent, then the unfold camper trailer, then the pop-top caravan which we had to sell because I couldn’t travel.

Some people think that if you have a motorhome it’s because you are ‘up yourself’ or that you have a lot of money. Neither description could be further from the truth for us. Circumstances have brought us to this point – we took a huge risk – and we are grateful and give thanks for our good fortune.

Every time we set off, we can’t keep the smiles from spreading all over our faces – like two big kids who have been let loose in the cookie jar!!
