I thought I’d share another interest that Poppy and I have enjoyed – that of furniture restoration. The first thing we ‘did up’ was a pine set of drawers. I can remember these standing behind the ‘back door’, holding my dad’s work clothes. They were painted all the crazy colours of the 60’s and when we rescued them from Dad’s shed they were as you see them below.
Poppy stripped back the layers of ghastly lovely colours that my parents had painted over the years with the idea of matching them to a bedhead we had. Unfortunately most of the hardware was broken beyond repair and we couldn’t find any to match but I eventually found some that were close enough in size to ensure that no holes would be visible.
Then I wanted to find a mirror – I remembered that this had originally had little drawers and a mirror. Once again I had to buy new. Every where I looked had oval mirrors so when I spotted this one I grabbed it – I was so happy to find one a bit different.
As this was new, Poppy worked with colour until he had a good enough match and this is the final result.
We had so much fun and the bug had bitten! Next time I’ll show you the bedside tables.
Until next time
Nanny xx
